External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and 61 foreign Heads of Missions experienced an elephant and jeep safari at Kaziranga National Park. For all of them, it was a very good experience as they went very close to Rhino, water buffalo, and deer. Ambassador of Georgia shared that during this month first they went to India’s historic ‘Maha Kumbh’ in Prayagraj; and, are now in Assam. This all is a very great experience. All of them seemed very happy that a lot of tourists come there.
“We are here for “Advantage Assam” and we want to give Assam and the Northeast States a higher profile so that more international tourists and investors come here. This year Kaziranga has already crossed the margin of 3 lakh tourists, which is a very good trend,” says External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
The Visit to Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is a national park located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam. It was established in 1974. Kaziranga is world famous as the habitat of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Two-thirds of the world’s rhinos are found here.
The diplomats and the External Affairs minister had reached Jorhat on Sunday night before proceeding to Kaziranga, renowned for its one-horned ‘rhinoceroses’ population, early the following day. At the Park’s central range in Kohora, the ambassadors began with an elephant safari, where Jaishankar rode the distinguished elephant Pradyumna.
Following this, they embarked on a jeep safari through the park, which holds UNESCO world heritage status. Post-safari, Jaishankar and several envoys could be observed providing food to the elephants. The visiting dignitaries were accompanied by Assam agriculture minister Atul Bora, Kaziranga Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, park director Sonali Ghosh and DFO Arun Vignesh.
Jaishankar and the ambassadors are also slated to travel to Guwahati to attend a Jhumoir dance presentation featuring approximately 9,000 performers, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. The diplomatic delegation is scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Infrastructure and Investment Summit on 25th February.
”A historic visit! Last night, Hon’ble External Affairs Minister Shri Dr S Jaishankar landed in Jorhat with over 50 Heads of Missions on a historic visit to Assam. This will open up the doors of intensified foreign collaboration in the state. A warm welcome to all!”, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on ‘X’.
First such Investment Summit held in Guwahati
Advantage Assam 2.0 will be a sequel to the first such investment summit held in Guwahati in 2018 when Sarbananda Sonowal, who is now a union minister, was the chief minister of the state. Multiple MoUs to invest in the state valued at over ₹65,000 crores were signed by companies during that summit.
The Assam Cabinet on Sunday approved memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth over ₹1.22 lakh crores to be signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 infrastructure and investment summit scheduled to be held in Guwahati.
“After a nearly three-hour-long deliberation, the Cabinet approved proposals worth ₹1.22 lakh crores from various sectors, except piggery. The figure could go much higher once more announcements are made by different companies during the summit,” chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The CM said that while some MoUs will have a financial component there will be others where there won’t be any monetary exchange but will deal with exchange of technology or assure jobs for the state’s youth.”
