Australian musculoskeletal physiotherapist Jared Powell, who holds a PhD in shoulder pain-related study, recently took to social media to hail Rohit Sharma’s physical awareness on the field. During a 2022 ODI at Lord’s, Rohit Sharma popped his dislocated shoulder back into the joint to the amazement of fans and the commentators.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma has faced criticisms over his form and fitness in recent years, even sparking a nationwide debate during the Champions Trophy held in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.
The 37-year-old Mumbaikar, however, proved his detractors wrong with a spell-binding 76 in the final in Dubai, helping India tide over New Zealand to lift their second ICC title within nine months under his captaincy.

Resharing a clip from an India-England ODI from 2022 on his Instagram handle, ‘shoulder physio’, Powell said the Indian captain “deserved a ton of respect” for popping his dislocated shoulder back on his own.
Powell was referring to Rohit’s sharp move on the field during an ODI India played against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in July 2022 when the skipper felt his left elbow/shoulder pop out of its joint. Fielding at cover, Rohit would attempt to stop a shot from Liam Livingstone off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling with a leap to his left and immediately realize the dislocation above his elbow.
Bewildering one and all, Rohit would clutch his elbow straight before popping it back in after bending the forearm. “Ouch,” went English commentator Michael Atherton. “What has he done there? It looks like he just put his joint out there and put it back very quickly.”
Atherton would add that his co-commentator and former England captain Nasser Hussain turned “green” on seeing Rohit’s bold self-fix.
“Eoin [Morgan] is at the back of the box. He says he does that a lot,” added Hussain. “He dislocates his shoulder and then he just pops it back in. Is it elbow? Maybe elbow. Just pops it back in.”
Rohit would soon station himself back at his position and continue as if nothing had happened, even sharing a laugh with Jadeja. Reacting to the nearly three-year-old clips on Instagram, Australia doctor Powell said: “So you might be waiting for me to criticise this that, ‘You should only let a professional relocate your shoulder’. But I’m not going to do that because this is simply very tough.
“This man, Rohit Sharma, Indian cricket star, deserves a ton of respect,” added Powell.
Rohit Sharma (born 30 April 1987) is an Indian international cricketer and the captain of Indian cricket team in Test and ODI formats. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest ODI opening batters of all time. He is a right-handed batsman who plays for Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League and for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Rohit previously captained India in all three formats. After leading India to the victory at the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, he announced his retirement from T20 Is. He also led India to victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

He is the first and only captain to lead a team in all ICC tournament finals.
